Look 2 trials and Errors

“Look 2” describes the final garment in the runway version of this collection. This garment will feature intense pleating that molds the dress to the body. Along the channels created by the pleating, fiber optic cables will be sewn in, as a way to recreate the natural glow that bioluminescent algae emits at its most toxic point.

Click through the carousel see the drape happen! This process began by taking a swath of Plisse Knit and draping it on the bias, pleating along the body at my desired pleat depth, and basting the stitches down to free up more pins along the way. I draped the front, bust panel, shoulder, and back with this method, which took roughly 24 hours of straight work. I removed the drape, cut the basting free, patterned it, and then cut fresh pieces of Plisse to begin my fit mockup. Pleating and basting the 2nd time only took around 18 hours. Once all the panels were properly basted, and I was sure that the shape wouldn’t be compromised, I removed the pieces to be sewn together at the sides and the bust.
